Walk-In Shower Cost in 2026
By Renue Home Editorial Team · Updated September 30, 2026
Angi's July 15, 2026 guide reports a $9,000 average walk-in shower cost and a $6,000 to $12,000 range. Use that as a published planning reference, then request a quote for your shower's size, materials and installation work. Read Angi's walk-in shower estimate.
A shower kit price, a completed shower installation and a full bathroom remodel describe different purchases. Before comparing numbers, check whether they include removal of the old fixture, installation, plumbing, waterproofing, glass and finishing work.

Tub-to-shower conversion needs its own quote
A conversion includes removing the existing tub and preparing that space for the new shower. Ask the contractor to inspect the drain, supply plumbing and surrounding surfaces before treating an advertised shower price as a complete conversion price.
Record whether the quote keeps the current footprint, relocates the drain or changes the entry. If you want a low threshold or curbless design, ask how the contractor will achieve it in your particular floor structure. A familiar-looking alcove does not establish that the new shower is a direct replacement.
Compare prefab and custom tile on the same basis
Ask a prefab installer for the manufacturer, model, wall system, base and included accessories. Ask a tile installer for the tile allowance, surface area being tiled and the specified base and waterproofing system. In both cases, request a complete installed total and a list of exclusions.
Keep preferences separate from requirements. For example, a particular tile color may be optional, while a comfortable entry or room for assistance may be essential. Give each bidder the same requirements so you can compare the alternatives fairly.
Six items to resolve before accepting a shower quote
- Demolition and disposal. Identify the old fixtures and surfaces being removed, who carries away debris and how nearby rooms will be protected.
- Plumbing. Specify whether the drain and valve stay in place. Request separate pricing for proposed relocation.
- Waterproofing and preparation. Ask for the system to be named in writing and for an explanation of preparation, inspection and testing before surfaces are covered.
- Glass and hardware. Confirm the enclosure dimensions, door style, finish, installation and any later measurement visit.
- Permits and finishing. Confirm local permit requirements, fee responsibility, wall repairs, painting and cleanup.
- Unknown damage. Agree on how discoveries will be photographed, priced and authorized. An unspecified allowance should not become an open-ended approval.
Ask what the schedule actually includes
A quoted installation duration may not include ordering materials, waiting for glass or completing inspections. Ask for the expected sequence from demolition to first use, including any product-specific curing or testing time. If it is your only shower, make arrangements based on the usable date rather than the first day of work.
Make the quote comparison useful
Write each contractor's base price next to the same scope. Add separately quoted items you need and adjustments for your selected products. Keep optional upgrades on a different line. This makes it easier to see whether a price difference comes from the labor, the products or missing work.
Use the printable contractor comparison worksheet to record the details, payment schedule and warranty responsibilities. For work outside the shower, use our bathroom remodel cost guide to define the rest of the room's scope.
Questions about walk-in shower costs
Is a shower stall price the installed price?
Only if the offer explicitly includes installation. Request a written list of labor, materials and exclusions. A product listing alone does not establish the cost to remove your existing shower and complete the replacement.
Will removing my last bathtub increase resale value?
Do not assume a guaranteed increase. Consider your household's needs and ask a local real estate professional how the change fits comparable homes in your market. A full bathroom remodel's estimated resale return is not a separate valuation of a shower conversion.
Can I save money by doing part of the work myself?
Ask the contractor which tasks can be separated without affecting inspections, scheduling or warranty responsibilities. Get that division of work in writing before you start. Confirm any licensing or permit requirements with your local building department.
